This is the first car that I owned after I got a "real" drivers license.  It is to me much like a first love.  I have compared every other car I ever owned to this one.  In 1974 there were two very distinct models of the Skyline.  This car was never imported into the US intil 2006 as an Infiniti G35 and will be imported as the Nissan GTR for 2008.

The two distinct versions of the skyline were the coupe (2-door like mine) and the sedan.  Other variations included 4-cylinder versions and 6 cylinder versions Auto and Manual Transmissions.  The 72 1/2 through the 78 models were known as the Ken and Mary style, due to Ken and Mary characters starring in commercials.

I was really wanting a Skyline GTR 1972 (The last year before Nissan took a break from GTR production).  The GTR's were very hard to find back in the day and very expensive, as they still are, a truly legendary vehicle.  I found a skyline GTX (Inline 6 2.0 Liter with 5-Speed Manual Tranny in pretty good condition.  I bought it.

One of my high school buds (Tommy) had a brother (Duane) who had a 2.6 Liter (L26) motor in the back yard looking for a home (It had been removed from his bluebird that had been wrecked as I recall).  Tommy and I pulled out the 2.0 and dropped in the 2.6.  There was a Tri weber setup on the 2.6 and Tommy's dad tuned the carbs by ear (we were high school kids and didn't know how exactly to tune by ear).  The car ran great.  Took it to a tuning shop and low and behold the carbs were actually slightly off.  Dad's tuning abilities were unbelievable.  Tommy and I drove that car everywhere, racing, hanging out, and causing general disturbances as all high school kids do.  Those were the best days of my life.

I'll never forget Tommy and all of the fun we had together.  Even though time has seperated us as has mileage I'll never forget.

My car is pictured below.  Yep, that's me in '82 - '83 in the blue mechanics cover alls.

If you look at the tail lights, you will notice that they are not stock.  The outer round taillights were pulled to the inner spaces, backup lights were yellow, and taillights from a Nissan Cherry were grafted into the outer spaces.  Also had one of those very fast blinker flashers.  Directional blinkers were the rectangular yellow lights.  All four red lenses were low when the headlights were on and brightened under braking.

Had a very nice, in its day, pioneer sound system with TSX-11s in the rear window.
